Workshop Description
Energy efficiency and decarbonization Interventions on existing buildings (i.e. refurbishments) are among the most resource effective options for climate mitigation and adaptation available. Done right, they also have the potential to generate substantial co-benefits in terms of comfort and health.
Despite this, refurbishment rates in almost all countries are substantially below the rate that would be necessary to transition the existing building stock in time to meet climate targets.
The rationale for this is commonly held to be a multitude of barriers that result in people either not doing much or preferring demolition and new built over refurbishment. A standardized refurbishment movement at scale is not happening.
The workshop aims to bring people together, discuss and exchange on barriers and success factors in overcoming them. The event is for people that bring examples for barriers and/ or success stories or simply with an interest in joining the discussion.
